Frequently Asked Questions About Yoga Grip Mats

  1. Question: Why do you recommend that I wash my mat before using it for the first time?
Answer: Our mats come with a slick, protective coating to ensure longevity during storage and shipping. Washing your mat will remove the coating and reveal the “grip surface” necessary for safe and successful use.
  2. Question: How should I wash my mat?
Answer: We have found the best way to clean your mat is in the bathtub. Place your mat in a tub filled with warm water, and then gently wash it with a mild soap and scrubbing brush. The brush will help get rid of the protective coating and will also help give your mat some added texture. Once you have cleaned the entire mat, thoroughly rinse it with water, squeeze out any excess water, and then put it outside to dry avoiding the sun if at all possible. You can also perform a 5-minute quick wash: Go over the entire mat with a disinfecting cleaning wipe and then go over it again with a wet rag making sure to remove all traces of cleansing agents. Set mat aside to dry.
  3. Question: How long will it take for my mat to dry?
Answer: Drying time takes anywhere between 1-2 days for tub washings, and 20-30 minutes for a quick wash.
  4. Question: Why does my mat smell a little funny?
Answer: The chemicals used to make the mat tend to leave an odor behind. Washing the mat usually helps get rid of the smell.
  5. Question: My last mat was so cheap it ripped in half after only six months. How long should this mat last?
Answer: We are proud to inform you that our mats are some of the strongest and most durable offered on the market today! In fact if you were to try and rip our mats into 2 pieces with your bare hands you would probably find that you could not do it! They are that strong! With proper care, your mat should hold up for years.
  6. Question: Why do you have 2 sizes of mat? Which size mat should I choose, a ¼” thick mat or the 1/8” thinner mat?
Answer: Mat thickness is truly a personal preference and we offer 2 different sizes to give you the option. A thin mat provides excellent cushion without throwing off your balance and is usually less expensive than a thicker mat. For many people a thin mat is the next best thing to practicing on the bare floor. Many people choose thick mats because they feel the 1/8” thickness of the thin mat simply isn’t comfortable. Thick mats provide incredible cushion and support for the body, and some people feel the added thickness helps with their balance.
  7. Question: May I use my mat for Pilates or some other kind of exercise?
Answer: Absolutely! Our mats are designed for any fitness regimen and are great for home workouts.

I felt a lot more confident in my poses, since I didn't have to worry about slipping. Finally, I can strengthen my arms instead of stressing my wrists. My yoga teacher thought my gloves were really cool, too! Thank you for making such a great product!
